Update (Dec. 2019): The battery is holding strong, no issues there, but the blades needs to be changed.
I just bought a Philips AT890 shaving machine.
My first impressions are…wow…
I wasn’t sure that an electric shaving machine will do the job as a more classical shaving blade, but I was totally wrong. This machine is almost perfect.
Since now I use it just one time and I was very pleased with the quality of shaving. It didn’t left any patches of hair.
I use it on dry skin, no water or foam, but next time I will try with shaving foam.
I decided to choose electric because my neck skin gets irritated very fast, and the first time that I use it I also got irritated but the Philips says this it can happened in the first 2 weeks of use, until the skin gets used with the system of machine, but afterwards everything will be ok.
The shaver also has trimmer for sideburns with is a nice feature.
I added pictures form unboxing and with the content of the box.
The box contains:
-
Shaving machine
-
Charger
-
Safety cap
-
Brush
-
Bag for shaver
It should be noted that Philips AT890 lacks very important future for dry shaving: 9 comfort-settings and its battery cannot be replaced after end of lifetime (3 – 4 years). By comparition, older HQ84445 (cord-operated) is of my better quality and is more practical (it can last for more than 10 years). It is unfortunate, that Philips replaced it with another garbage, made in China.
yeah, your right, i can not operate it when it is plugged in 😦 (i just tried it)
This is correction to misprint: HQ8445 is of much better quality.

This makes this shaver very impractical for use. I am using ut since i boughted and never touched a razor blade. Also i charged when i buy it (when i posted the blog post) and since now i didnt charged it again. Also i love the sideburns trimmer. Until now i have no complains.

How long ago did you buy it? Sideburn-trimmer used to be standard future on all Philips’ shavers until production was moved to China. And what you will to with it, when battery-life expires after 3-4 years of use? According to the manual and Philips’ customer-service it cannot be replaced. It would be much better for Philips to return to European tradition of design – excellent workmanship, quality and long-lasting products, and not follow mean chinese advice.
16 March 2012 ….since than i didn’t charge it…and it shaves so good. and after the battery life will expire i can use it with cable…anyway im not type of guy to shave in car or train or bus 🙂
You will be unable to use with cord (“cable,” according to you), since it designed (probably on chinese advice) to operate from battery only (see your manual)
